April 2022: The MDL Paraquat class action judge will have a status conference on April 1st to review where the litigation is headed and how best to take the bellwether lawsuits forward for trial in November 2022. 44 new paraquat lawsuits have been added to the MDL in the last two weeks. At this pace, April 2022 will be the busiest month for new files yet. Last week, the parties filed their class-action bellwether picks with the Paraquat MDL judge. Those choices, however, have not been made public.

May 2022: In the last month, over 50 new cases have been added to the Paraquat Lawsuit Multidistrict Litigation (MDL). A group of six patients was recently selected by the Paraquat MDL court for the initial Paraquat Parkinson's disease bellwether trials. As a result, the first trial in November 2022 is approaching soon. The strategy is to select 16 paraquat claims from among the almost 1000 Parkinson's disease litigation claims filed. Following some limited fact discovery in these instances, paraquat attorneys on both sides submitted a preference list to the MDL court, ranking the 16 cases in order of priority. Attorneys for plaintiffs seek the finest facts for their clients, while defense attorneys want the worst. The judge whittled the list down to six Paraquat claims based on these rankings.

Billions Recovered

We are here to help survivors seek justice and compensation due before its too late. A lack of effective oversight in schools across the county has enabled unchecked sexual abuse. Vulnerable children are put in a situation where they can be exploited by offenders because there is little oversight and responsibility. Numerous cases of abuse have resulted from this inability to protect pupils, underscoring the urgent need for structural changes and increased awareness.

Have your voice heard, protect your rights, prevent future abuse, and begin the healing process. Waiting too long could result in losing the opportunity to file a claim altogether. Let us help you act now by filling out the form above.

If you or your child has had any contact with one of the priests listed below or has experienced sexual misconduct in a Catholic church, school or organization, please contact us now. We believe victims. Our goal is to help you attain the justice and compensation you deserve promptly. Deadlines are approaching. File now, before it's too late.

Manly, Stewart & Finaldi. America’s Leading
Sexual Abuse Lawyers.

We are California’s leading law firm representing survivors of sexual abuse, harassment, and assaults by teachers in California school districts. We have recovered more than $400 million in settlements and jury verdicts on behalf of children abused in schools. We are also the lead attorneys representing Olympic athletes and survivors of former US Olympic Women’s Gymnastics Team Doctor Larry Nassar and secured $880 million in settlements for our clients. We were the lead attorneys helping sexual abuse survivors of former gynecologist George Tyndall recover $852 million from the University of Southern California. In each of these cases, we have helped survivors and families get justice by conducting a thorough investigation of the perpetrator and the organization that employed the perpetrator. We can keep the case 100 percent confidential and protect your identity if that is preferred. We also help take the necessary action to hold the abuser, and any other party that knew about the abuse but did not disclose it, accountable. Call anytime to schedule your free confidential consultation with one of our attorneys or use our online contact form.

The Catholic Church has faced numerous lawsuits for sexual abuse claims. The experienced sexual abuse attorneys at Manly, Stewart & Finaldi have recovered more than $1 billion on behalf of their clients in these landmark cases:

Los Angeles Roman Catholic Bishop - $660 million: Global settlement of 508 sexual abuse claims filed on behalf of individuals sexually assaulted by priests and agents of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Los Angeles.

Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego - $198 Million: Global settlement of 144 sexual abuse claims during sixth months of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding.

Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange - $100 Million: Global settlement of 87 sexual abuse claims filed on behalf of individuals sexually assaulted by priests and agents of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange, California.

Delaware Clegy Sexual Abuse - $109 Million: Global settlement of over 145 sexual abuse claims filed on behalf of individuals sexually assaulted by priests and agents of the Diocese of Wilmington, the Brothers of the Holy Cross, and the Capuchin Friars.

The Diocese of Fresno has faced a long and troubling history of sexual abuse allegations spanning decades. In August 2021, the diocese released a list naming clergy members credibly accused of abuse (see below) with allegations dating back as far as the 1940s. Independent sources have noted that nearly 50 priests faced accusations, though some were never investigated due to statute-of-limitations issues.

The Diocese of Fresno officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on July 1, 2025, as it confronts a staggering total of 153 pending sex abuse lawsuits filed by clergy abuse survivors. Faced with overwhelming exposure, officials assert the move is necessary to prevent insolvency and to establish a structured process for addressing survivors’ claims. According to Bishop Joseph Brennan, the bankruptcy route represents the only viable path for balancing equitable compensation to survivors while preserving ongoing ministry functions. Critics, including survivor advocates and legal counsel, argue the bankruptcy filing is a strategic delay tactic. From the diocese’s perspective, its liabilities, estimated to exceed $50 million, may outstrip both assets and insurance coverage, and bankruptcy offers a means to pool resources in a survivors’ compensation fund and negotiate a global settlement.
